STEM challenge activities are a fantastic way to get students excited about hands-on learning. But, fitting design challenges into your curriculum can often feel like a challenge itself. That’s why i’ve created this Pipe Cleaner STEM Design Challenge as part of my popular STEM with Close Reading series. This activity integrates ELA and STEM in a way that keeps your students engaged and learning.
This activity combines a fun STEM challenge with a high-interest online reading passage. First, students read the reading passage and answer rigorous, text-dependent questions. Then, they get to take on the challenge of designing a structure using pipe cleaners and simple materials found around the house or classroom. With this activity, you can keep the focus on learning while making it exciting and hands-on.
The Pipe Cleaner STEM Design Challenge includes everything you need to implement it right away. Your students will engage in meaningful reading and writing as they work through the questions.
